A number of “modified” cars were taken to the “MOT” centre in Derry last night for examination in a major road safety operation carried out by police in the city.
A police spokesperson said in response to concerns brought to them from members of the local community, officers from Foyleside and the Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team worked alongside DVA (Driver Vehicle Agency) Transport Enforcement in what was described as a *road safety operation.”.
The spokesperson added: “This resulted in a number of modified cars being examined at the DVA test centre.
“This is to check that they are safe and road worthy.
“Drivers don’t get caught out, if you are going to carry out modifications to your vehicle please make sure that they are legal.
“It is your responsibility to ensure that your vehicle is road worthy.”
The spokesperson concluded: “Some modifications may look cool, but a £200 fine for a lowered suspension is not.”
