Derry City crashed out of the EA Sports Cup (League Cup) when they suffered a shock 1-0 home semi-final defeat to Airtricity First Division side Limerick FC at Brandywell tonight.
Stephen Kenny got the all-important goal in the 15th minute when he pounced to take advantage of a mistake in the home defence.
Derry laid siege on the Limerick goal for lengthy periods in the second half but found Freddie Hall in outstanding form, the visiting keeper pulling of a number of saves to deny the home side.
In the final, Limerick will play either Shamrock Rovers or St Patrick’s Athletic who meet in the other semi.
