Residents evacuated after gas leak detected at city apartment block

A gas leak was detected at a block of apartments in Derry last night, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) has said.

Residents were evacuated from the building at Clarendon Manor (off Northland Road).

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said fire crews were called to the scene (pictured) shortly after 8.30pm.

The spokesperson said: “Two fire sppliances from Northland Fire Station and one tire appliance from Crescent Link Fire Station were deployed to the scene.

“A number of residents were evacuated from the premises as firefighters carried out a reading using a gas monitor.

“A small gas leak was detected at the exterior gas intake.

“The building was ventilated and there were no injuries.”

The spokesperson concluded: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at 9:56pm. The incident was handed over to a gas engineer.”
