Derry Feile underway with a packed programme of events for everyone to enjoy

The annual Feile is underway in Derry with a packed programme of events with something for everyone to enjoy

Running on until August 17, the festival includes interactive arts worshops for adults and young people, culture and heritage events, sporting events, exhibitions, BBQs, tea dances and family fun days.

Under the theme of “Unity,” organisers say this year’s event is about “ndividuals, families, residents, government, business and community organisations coming together to celebrate peace and harmony.”

Linda McKinney, Feile organiser, said: “In the face of negative elements and adversity trying to divide and breakdown the community, Féile will be one opportunity for everyone to stand together in a positive way.

Highlights include the Big Bog BBQ on Saturday, August 13, at Free Derry Corner.

Starting at 2.00pm, it will feature a BBQ and a selection of International foods at 3.30pm.

The Wan Big Street Party will be staged at Central Drive in Creggan on Monday, August 15

The, Féile will be hosting a variety of events looking at 1916 and the Somme with a number of events taking place over the two weeks.

On Friday, August 12, there will be a 1916 Easter Rising and Somme Exhibition, a 1916 play and tea dance all in the Community Marquee in Creggan.

Jog in the Bog will make its annual return on Thursday, August 11 - kids fun run at 6.30pm - £1, 5k walk at 6.45pm - £5 and 5k chipped and timed run at 7pm - £5. Light refreshments will be provided afterwards in the Gasyard.
