Prayers are being asked this evening for Bishop Edward Daly who is ‘gravely ill’.
The 83-year-old retired Bishop of Derry is being cared for in hospital.
A spokesperson for the Derry Diocese confirmed that Bishop Daly was ‘gravely ill’ and that members of his family are at his bedside.
The spokesperson asked people to keep the popular clergyman in their prayers.
Bishop Daly, who served as Bishop of Derry from 1974 until 1993, has suffered from ill health for several years.
He retired from his role as chaplain to the Foyle Hospice earlier this year.
