A man was taken to hospital after he was led to safety from the River Foyle late yesterday afternoon by Foyle Search and Rescue (FSR) volunteers.
The incident occurred shortly before 4.30pm when FSR were contacted by a concerned member of the public who reported a person on the wrong side of the railings along the river.
FSR activated its Emergency Response Team who responded with one boat and a land crew and within minutes located and observed a man on the wrong side of the railings at the reported location.
He was brought to safety after talking to the FSR land crew and transferred by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital.
It is the second such incident to occur along the river’s edge within a five day period.
A woman was also led to safety by FSR volunteers on Friday afternoon.
That incident followed two people, one an 18-year-old girl, being rescued from the river the previous week.

Last year, FSR volunteers responded to 153 incidents, saving 13 people and leading a further 61 distressed people to safety from the river’s edge.
A further 76 people were approached who volunteers believed needed their interaction and help.
Two bodies were recovered from the river during 2015.
