Bishop Street residents have raised concerns about traffic congestion and public safety at a meeting about a planned housing complex at the old Nazareth House site.
Choice, the largest independent housing association in Northern Ireland, has proposals for 55 new dwellings to be built at the site.
Choice is a merger of four housing associations, including Oaklee Trinity, which in 2014 proposed using the space for supported living accommodation for people with alcohol addiction.
Those plans were met with fierce resistance from people in the area at the time.
In the new plans, outbuildings at the site would be demolished and the Nazareth House building itself, which is listed, would be entirely refurbished.
The building is earmarked for 24 apartments, made up of 8 two-person apartments and 16 one-person apartments.
Elsewhere on the site, there will be a range of mixed housing including those for the elderly, people with complex needs and general needs.
These will comprise semi-detached houses, apartments and bungalows.
Architect, Matt Bishop, said there will be 51 parking spaces within this complex.
Residents from the area attended a public meeting at Bishop Street Community Centre yesterday as part of a pre-application consultation process.
Many of those in attendance expressed concerns about traffic congestion in an area that is already 'congested enough'.
They envisage additional overspill from the site.
They also have concerns about h parking outside their homes, particularly at peak times in the morning and afternoon when pupils come and go from Lumen Christi College.
One resident expressed safety concerns as she believes congestion prevents the emergency services from accessing the area in the case of emergencies.
She, along with other residents, believe the 51 parking spaces proposed are inadequate and suggested either increasing that number or developing an alternative road that would ease the flow of traffic.
There were also questions asked about the omission of a play area to accommodate any young families who may move into the development.
