A Derry man whose taxi van for disabled people was stolen and burned out in the city has described those responsible as “vermin.”

Tommy Bradley went to go to work this morning only discover his blue eight seater Peugeot Expert vehicle was missing from the driveway of his Whitehouse Park home.

The family car was also parked there but was not touched.

The taxi was found burned out at Upper Galliagh Road.

It is believed it had been stolen some time after 5.00am.

It is the latest incident of car crime in the city which has seen cars stolen and burned out.

Mr Bradley said he could not understand the mindset of people who would steal and destroy a vehicle which many disabled people relied on.

Speaking on BBC Radio Foyle he said: “It is a terrible thing that you can’t be in your bed at night with people creeping round your home.

“I just don’t know what to say to them – they are vermin.”

Police have appealed to anyone with information to telephone the 101 non emergency number.
