A show stopping mix of local and national theatre, music, comedy, and screenings has been announced for the Derry Playhouse’s new September to December programme.

A new series of live screenings of The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet from The Royal Opera House, including favourites such as Puccini’s ‘Madama Butterfly’ by The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker’ in December have all been announced.

The theatre will have visits from Irish troubadour Luka Bloom, Kabosh, Field Day, Wireless Mystery Theatre, Dyad Productions, and the return of everyone’s favourite storyteller Grimm at Halloween.

The season will also see the return of The Playhouse Big Tickle Comedy Festival, celebrating 12 years of comedy gold in September with Give My Head Peace funnyman Tim McGarry (pictured), chameleon comedienne Kate Perry, internationally acclaimed Nuala McKeever, local comic Peter E Davidson, and award winning stand up Jo Caulfield.

Other treats include a powerful new drama from writer Jane Coyle, ‘The Lantern Man’, set in Dublin months before the Easter Rising, and the return of the annual Field Day Lecture, ‘A Terrible State of Chassis’, a lecture by Bernadette Devlin McAliskey, introduced by Emer Nolan, with a Q&A with Michael Farell.

“We are just so excited to announce a brand new Autumn season- packed full of magic, fun, creativity and comedy, great theatre, performance, and music,” said Aine McCarron, Playhouse marketing and programming officer said.

“Every season we strive to bring a wide mix of local, national and international talent to our audiences, whether it’s their favourite performer or theatre company, or a brand new experience. Our aim is to make arts of the highest quality more accessible to everyone.”
