Derry’s Aileen Reid competes in the ladies triathlon at the Rio Olympics this afternoon (3.00pm Irish time) aiming to do herself justice.
The 34-year-old was in contention for a top finish at the 2012 Olympics in London but a crash in the cycling section of the event resulted in her finishing in 43rd place.
However, she insists that is firmly behind her and despite illness curtailing her training for Brazil, she goes into this afternoon’s event confident of doing her self proud.
The best performance of her career came in the World Triathlon Series Grand Final in 2013 when she finished second, finishing the season ranked eighth in the world.
