Police appeal for witnesses after a man is assaulted close to the Diamond area of Derry's city centre

Police in Derry are appealing for witnesses following an assault that occurred in the Bishop Street area near The Diamond at the weekend.

At approximately 2am on Sunday, August 21, a 43-year-old man was assaulted by three to four males as he got into a taxi.

He sustained an injury to his head which required hospital treatment.

A police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 182 of 21/08/16.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
