The PSNI have compared the actions of a police officer to Usain Bolt after a dramatic chase in Derry last night.
Writing on their Facebook page this afternoon, a PSNI spokesperson said: “The Olympics may be over but it didn't stop local officers showcasing their athletic talents during the chase and arrest of a suspect yesterday evening in the Glenabbey area of Derry.
“Officers from local policing teams, the district support team, and Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team ran cross-country through Galliagh/Shantallow, vaulting fences, with one officer claiming to have ran the final 100 metres, which ultimately cornered the suspect, in a time of 9.57 seconds (New World Record). Usain Bolt was not available for immediate comment.”
The spokesperson added: “On a more serious note: the suspect was wanted for questioning in relation to serious offences such as Attempted GBH with Intent, Criminal Damage, Assault, Possession of an Offensive Weapon, Theft, and Breach of Bail. He is currently recovering from his second placed finish and "assisting" police with their enquiries.”
