A large crowd has gathered for the launch of a new book by a well-known Derry man.

Tony Doherty’s book, ‘This Man’s Wee Boy’, chronicles his experiences of growing up in Derry.

It was a young life which was shattered in January 1972 when Tony’s father, Paddy, was shot dead by British paratroopers on Bloody Sunday.

However, while the new book deals near its end with the tragic events of Bloody Sunday, it is more based on the memories of the author on growing up in the city in the 1960s and early 1970s.

The official launch of the book was on Thursday evening at Long Tower Primary School, Tony’s former primary school.

The book was launched by acclaimed filmmaker Jimmy McGovern (pictured above with Tony Doherty) who created the ‘Bloody Sunday’ television drama in 2002.

See tomorrow’s Derry News for more on the book launch.
