The removal of a large wall in the Creggan area of Derry has been welcomed by Sinn Fein Cllr Colly Kelly.
The demolition of the wall at Creggan Heights followed concerns it could collapse after it was hit by a car last week.
Cllr Kelly said following the incident the wall was left in an “unstable condition” and there was “clear health and safety concerns.”
Cllr Kelly added: “Residents contacted me worried that young children were climbing on the wall.
“I contacted building control from the council on Tuesday morning and raised all those concerns. I want to praise the owner of the property who ensured that the wall was taken down as speedily as possible.
“There will be consultation with the families of the young lads on a mural which was on the wall so we can remember them when a new wall goes up.”
Cllr Kelly concluded: “As a matter of urgency there will also be a temporary fence put in place.”
