Get out the 'glad rags': Mayor’s Tea Dances return to Guildhall from next week

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock is inviting older people from throughout the district to come along to Mayor’s Tea Dances which return to the Guildhall this month.

The first of the monthly dances takes place on Wednesday next, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm with music by; the 3’J’s, John Trotter & Co, Legacy Band and Midnight Sun.

The traditional tea dances are held at the historic Guildhall on the first Wednesday of each month.

They were initiated ten years ago and remain hugely popular with residents and visitors to the city and are attended by people from all walks of life, including individuals, community groups and tourists.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Mayor said, ‘I’m really looking forward to hosting my first tea dance as Mayor of the city and district. I’ve heard so much about how enjoyable these dances are and it will be great to have an opportunity to chat with everyone who comes along.

‘The Mayoral tea dance is a great way of bringing older people from all communities together and it is my honour to host it. It’s an opportunity to come along each month, enjoy our beautiful Guildhall, meet people, enjoy some dancing, music, tea and cakes and have some fun.

“ The invitation is open to all citizens, community groups, and visitors to the city and I look forward to welcoming everyone.’

Tickets for the Mayor’s Tea Dance are free.

• Wednesday 2nd November 2016 – 2 – 4pm
• Wednesday 7th December 2016 – 2 – 4pm
• Wednesday 8th February 2017 – 2 – 4pm
• Wednesday 1st March 2017 – 2 – 4pm
• Wednesday 5th April 2017 – 2 – 4pm
• Wednesday 3rd May 2017 – 2– 4pm
