The Irish Powerlifting Championships will be held in Derry this weekend – the first time the event will be held in the city.
Open to both male and female competitors, the event will get underway in the Maldron Hotel on Butcher Street at 10.00am on Saturday.
Local Sinn Fein Councillor Colly Kelly has sent “best wishes” to the competitors and the organisers, the Irish Powerlifting Organisation (IPO).
He said “It’s good to see such competitions coming to Derry and will, hopefully, encourage more sporting organisations to come and use our city for hosting events.
“We have seen that events large and small can have a positive impact on the local hospitality sector.”
Established in Ireland in 2005, IPO grown to be one of the most successful powerlifting federations in the country.
