A quirky fundraising event will be held at a Derry GAA club today.

Steelstown Brian Og’s will host its inaugural Cow Clap Challenge and already it is shaping up to be one of the club’s biggest ever fundraising events.

Club chairman, Tony Jackson (pictured above), explains: “The club’s main pitch at Parc Brid at Ballyarnett will be divided into squares, measuring two metres by two metres and each square will be ‘sold’ as a £5 ticket.

“The square in which the cow claps will be the winner of the top cash prize of £1000 and there will also be plenty of spot prizes throughout the day.”

The Cow Clap Challenge will be the highlight of a family fun day at the Ballyarnett club today and, building on the success of last year’s event, the Challenge will be preceded by a Big Breakfast.

The club chairman continues: “This is an opportunity for everyone to get involved and celebrate being a part of our great club, while also raising much needed funds. The money raised by The Cow Clap Challenge will be used to support the development of all our teams and to provide improved facilities for players and the club, both on and off the pitch.

“You don’t have to be an accountant to know that there are lots of two metre squares in a football pitch so we are going to have plenty of tickets to sell.

“This is a massive undertaking and its success will be dependent on getting ‘buy in’ from all club members so I’d encourage everyone associated with Steelstown GAC to buy a ticket and get behind The Cow Clap Challenge,” adds Tony.

The Cow Clap Challenge is due to start at 2pm.

Steelstown Brian Og’s chairman, Tony Jackson, is pictured above with club fundraiser Brian Devine and underage players Constance, Grace and Donnchadh Roarty, Lea Casey and Niall Mooney who visited Grianan Estate, Donegal to meet Daisy the Cow and get the club’s latest fundraising drive officially launched. Daisy is a Friesian cow owned by Norman and Ian Witherow who farm the largest herd of organic cows in Ireland.
