The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, is calling on the public to support students from St Cecilia’s College as they take on the Cares Shops’ Challenge at the Action Cancer Shop on Little James Street.
On Thursday (Sep 15) the group of A-Level Business students will be working alongside staff from McCrudden’s Centra, Culmore, offering free treats and discounts with a Vintage Tea Party theme to increase donations and sales for the charity.
The event is part of the Cares Shops’ Challenge which sees volunteers from local businesses use their entrepreneurial skills, business acumen and years of collective experience to increase donations, footfall and sales at their particular shop.
Speaking ahead of the event Mayor McClintock said: “I want to encourage everyone to support the campaign on Thursday.
“I know the students, working with the staff of McCrudden’s, have put a lot of time and effort into planning the event and they are hoping to raise as much as they can for the charity on the day.
“I would love to see a great turnout in support of this extremely worthy cause.”
The Cares Shops’ Challenge has raised over £250,000 for the charity’s cancer protection, detection and support services.
Companies taking part this year include: Allen & Overy, McCruddens Centra Culmore in partnership with St Cecilia’s College, Department for the Economy, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Hughes Insurance, Hutchinson Homes, Marks & Spencer and the NI Housing Executive.
