SDLP Derry Councillor Shauna Cusack has called on the local council to address a lack of signage in local parks warning penalties for drinking and dog foul in these areas.
“Following the recent opening of Brooke Park and as a regular user of Cregganburn Park, I have noticed a lack of signage informing the public of the penalties relating to drinking and dog fouling.
“While these offences should be common knowledge no one should be left in any doubt that breaching these Council bylaws can incur a fine of up to £200.00.
“It is regrettable some continue to misuse our outdoor places. The truth is that wherever there is drink taken in our parks, it is usually followed by destruction and littering. I personally have cleaned up cans, bottles and broken glass to prevent potential injury to the public and their pets.”
