The man who led Derry’s council through some of the most turbulent times of the ‘Troubles’ has died.
Colm Geary was chief executive of the local council from 1973 to 1991.
He was initially in charge of Londonderry City Council from 1973 to 1984.
However, in 1984, the council’s name was controversially changed to Derry City Council.
Mr Geary passed away on Friday.
His remains will be removed from his home, 17 Talbot Park, this evening at 6.30pm to Our Lady of Lourdes Church at Steelstown.
Mr Geary’s funeral will take place at the church tomorrow morning at 10am.
