A woman was taken to hospital after being rescued from the River Foyle in the early hours of this morning.

Foyle Search and Rescue’s (FSR) Emergency Response Team were activated at 5.20am to reports of a person having entered the water.

A land crew and two boats were dispatched to the area where, on arrival, the woman was located and assisted to shore by FSR volunteers and members of the PSNI.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Altnagelvin Hospital.

She is the second person to be rescued from the river within a 36 hour period.

A man was also taken to hospital after he too was rescued by FSR volunteers late on Tuesday night.
