First Ballybofey road tragedy victim to be laid to rest today

The funeral is taking place this morning of one of the two women who lost their lives in a tragic road traffic accident just outside Ballybofey on Wednesday.

Requiem Mass for Maria Carlin-Wallis (38),  Blue Cedars, in Ballybofey, will take place at 11.00 am in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar followed by burial in Drumboe Cemetery.

The funeral of Kiara Baird (19) 15 Glenwaters, Ballybofey will leave her home on Sunday at 10.15am for 11.00am Requiem Mass in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar followed by interment in Drumboe Cemetery.

Ms Wallis, a native of Derry,  is survived by her husband David; sons David, Darren and Andrew, parents Mary and David; brothers Mark and Michael.

Ms. Baird of 15 Glenwaters, Ballybofey is survived by her parents Tracy and Andrew; her brothers and sisters Cian, Cody, Cayden and Kayleigh.

The women died when the car in which they were travelling left the road and hit a pole at around 4.15pm on Wednesday, on the Glenfin Road (pictured) outside Ballybofey.

A man in his forties also travelling in car was treated for non-life-threatening injuries in Letterkenny University Hospital.

The tragedy has cast a dark cloud over the whole community and evoked a sense of shock and disbelief.
