The family of a young Derry man who died of cancer have raised more than £70,000 in his memory.

Gerard Logue (pictured) passed away in 2004 just a day before his 19th birthday.

Since his death, Gerard’s family have organised an annual charity walk in his memory.

The 5k Gerard Logue Memorial Walk/Run took place yesterday, setting off from the Waterside Railway Station at 11.00am.

To date, the annual walk in memory of Gerard has raised £71,487.

Family and friends have raised tens of thousands of pounds for the children and young people’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent, who were a great source of help and comfort during Gerard’s illness.

Paddy hopes to raise even more funds for the much-needed CLIC Sargent ‘Home from Home’ appeal that allows families that have to travel with their children for treatment to live in a homely environment, free of charge.

Paddy thanked everyone who has helped them raise an astonishing amount of money for the charity over the years.

“To date we have raised an amazing £71,487 and without your help this would not be possible.

“We would like to thank everyone who sold tickets, donated prizes and sponsored over the years and a special mention to Jim and Molly Moran for their continued support.

“The money raised goes a long way to helping families and children to deal with the trauma of getting through this illness, as well as maintaining the two ‘homes from homes’ in Belfast.”

CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Gareth McElduff said: "A massive thank you to the Logue family, their friends and local community for their continued support.

"The fund and events organised is such a fitting way to remember a sports loving and active young man.

"The money raised will go towards helping other children and young people with cancer.”
