There are fears Translink will suspend its services to the Galliagh of Derry after a bus was damaged when it had a firework thrown into in last night.

The incident occurred on Heather Road.

It is understood no one was injured.

There are now fears Translink will suspend its service to the area if such incidents continue.

Former Mayor, Cllr Elisha McCallion, described the incident as “reckless.”

She added: “Please stop this type of pointless activity and parents please have a chat with your kids and ask them not to take part or even encourage this type of behaviour.”

Local group, Galliagh Community Empowerent, said it would be contacting Translink to give them assurances that they would “be active” in the area to make sure such incidents were not repeated.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact them on the 101 non-emergency telephone number, quoting the reference number 1156 28/9/16l.

It is the latest incident involving the throwing of fireworks in the city.

Last week fireworks were thrown at cars in tne Galliagh area while on Tuesday night last homes of pensioners were targeted in the Bogside area.

Following those incidents, Sinn Fein Councillor Colly Kelly called for “robust” legal action to be taken against those selling what he described as “dangerous" illegal fireworks in the city.
