The annual two-week door-to-door collection to raise vital funds for the Derry-based Foyle Search & Rescue charity begins tonight.
Members of the public are being urged to support the initiative which will see teams visit all areas of the city up until Sunday, 15 May next.
The funds are invaluable in helping to run the charity and continue lifesaving work.
Last year, volunteers rescued 13 people from the River Foyle and over the past three weeks pulled three people from the water.
Chairman Stephen Twells said last year’s appeal was a “great success” and they were hoping to “build on that” this year.
He said “The money goes towards fuelling and maintaining our boats and rescue vehicles, purchasing vital equipment for our volunteers, training our teams and sustaining our Base.
“In the past we have had wonderful support from people in the city and we hope that support will be continued into the future.
“If anyone would like to give up some of their spare time to help with the collections they can do so by contacting Foyle Search and Rescue on 02871 313800 “
He concluded: “All help would be greatly appreciated.”
During the appeal, the charity’s volunteers will be knocking on doors between 6.00pm and 9.00pm each night.
All authorised collectors will carry Foyle Search and Rescue identification cards.
Only collectors with a valid ID are authorised to collect on behalf of the chairty.
All ID badges will have photo of the volunteer and will be signed by chairman Stephen Twells.
