Businesses in Derry are being urged to get involved in Women’s Health Week and encourage their employees to “think healthy.”
He initiative is being led Derry City and Strabane District Council who will next week host a series of events to promote health and well-being among its staff as part of its ‘Be Well’ programme and in support of Women’s Health Week.
Activities and events will include walks, health checks, weight loss sessions and healthy eating programmes to encourage council employees and particularly its female employees to become more active and healthy.
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock who is planning to take part in some of the events and said it was important that Council led the way with health and well-being initiatives in the workplace.
She added: “Many women lead busy lives and it is important they take time to talk about their own issues and think more about themselves and what they can do to be healthier.”
Meanwhile, the Council is encouraging all businesses to get involved in Women’s Health Week and encourage their employees to “think healthy.”
A spokesperson said; “Introducing physical activity to workers daily routines can prevent and manage various conditions.
“Considering we spend a third of our waking hours in work and with more that 160 million working days lost each year due to sickness and absenteeism, promoting a healthy mental and physical workplace can benefit businesses making them more productive in the long run.”
