A Derry woman who saved her father’s life by donating her kidney had ‘no qualms’, saying ‘I had to give daddy the chance of life… he gave it to me’.
Eugene McClintock (68) and his daughter, Genevieve (46), from Hatmore Park, have made an amazing journey together.
Genevieve was given the opportunity to repay her father for the gift of life by saving him through organ donation last year.
The father and daughter spoke about their experience at a Western Trust and Social Care Trust Board meeting raising awareness for Organ Donation Week.
Genevieve said she didn’t even have to think about becoming a living donor to save her father’s life.
“I had no hesitation, absolutely none – I had to give daddy the gift of life, he had given it to me,” she said.
Eugene said he would be forever grateful that the daughter to whom he gave life was able to return the favour.
“I was over the moon when Genevieve was able to donate.
“I was really down by this stage, I had no energy for anything, I couldn’t do anything.”
“But life is so good now,” he smiled.
