Louise James pays tribute to 'Team Evan'

Louise James paid tribute to all those who took part in yesterday's Belfast Marathon or donated funds in support.

The Derry woman took part in the marathon in memory of the members of her family who lost their lives in the Buncrana pier tragedy on March 20 last.

More than 100 runners ran on Team Evan, in support of Louise's eight-year-old late son who suffered from muscle-wasting condition Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Davitt Walsh, who rescued baby Rioghnac-Ann the sole survivor of the accident, also took part.

"Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a heart-breaking condition," said Louise after the race.

"There are hundreds of young people who live with it today," she said.

"It means so much that people who knew Evan and my family, and many who didn't, have come together like this."

"I want to thank every single person who took part to remember Evan, whether you ran the race or have put your hand in your pocket to donate," she said.

"You did something remarkable in his name and to celebrate his life. I know he would be proud."
