A children’s playpark in Derry has has been closed after it was targeted by vandals.
Last night’s incident is the latest at Ballymagowam in the Creggan area of the city.
Over the past year, vandals have repeatedly carried out attacks on the park, smasking coping stones.
On once occasion, waste bins were emptied and their contents scattered around the area.
In the latest incident, rubber safety matting was damaged and coping stones smashed with a hammer.
Those responsible have been condemned by Sinn Fein Cllr Kevin Campbell.
He added: “Apex have now closed the play park on the grounds of health and safety until they get these problems rectified.
“I am appealing to parents to have a conversation with your children around vandalism of the park.”
Cllr Campbell, pictured at the park, concluded; “I will continue to work with Apex to have the park opened asap.”
