A Dungiven man, who turned up to court this morning while under the influence of alcohol, has been remanded in custody.
Stephen Donaghy (45), of Columbia Park, came before Limavady Magistrates Court after an arrest warrant was executed following his failure to appear before the court last week.
Donaghy is charged with the criminal damage of a police custody cell and using disorderly behaviour on July 3.
While Donaghy was in the dock, District Judge Liam McNally asked solicitor Joe McElhinney if his client was under the influence of alcohol.
When Mr McElhinney confirmed that his client had consumed alcohol, Judge McNally told him he would be remanding Donaghy in custody until next week so he could deal with him when he is ‘sober’.
Addressing the defendant, Judge McNally told him it was ‘quite disrespectful’ not to turn up to court last week and then to turn up this week while under the influence of alcohol.
Donaghy is due to appear before the court on October 26.
