Police in Derry are hunting a man following the attempted armed robbery of a post office in the Rosemount area of the city.
The suspect, carrying a holdall, entered the premises at the junction of Academy Road and Park Avenue at around 4.00pm yesterday.
He pulled an item out of the holdall which was wrapped in a plastic bag and pointed it at staff, demanding money.
No cash was handed over and he fled the scene empty handed.
Police said the suspect was wearing a red full-zip hooded top with white writing across the chest, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.
Detective Sergeant Brian Reid has appealed to anyone who may have witnessed this man in the vicinity or anyone who has information about the incident, to contact detectives at Strand Road Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 843 of 18/10/16.
He added: “Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
