Derry’s MLAs are among the “most connected” through social media with their constituents, a newly released report shows.
A report commissioned by Stratagem has highlighted a marked departure in how politicians are engaging with their constituents and wider audiences.
The report, entitled Connected Politicians, considered the digital footprint of MLAs departing in the last mandate, and looked at website and social media usage.
It showed that 92 out of the total 108 MLAs in the Assembly by the end of the last mandate had a Facebook profile, whilst 90 had a Twitter account, 84 of which had been active in the previous month at the time the research was carried out.
The report also found that Nationalist MLAs had more followers than unionist representatives with Sinn Féin having almost double the number of followers than the UUP
While Foyle, South Belfast and South Down were the most “connected” constituencies, East Derry, Fermanagh & South Tyrone and West Belfast had the lowest digital footprint
