A demonstration was held outside BBC Radio Foyle’s studios in Derry this afternoon in protest at a decision by the station to omit an independent candidate in tomorrow’s Assembly election from a live radio debate.

Sixteen candidates will contest the six seats in the Foyle constituency.

Maeve McLaughlin (Sinn Fein), Gerard Diver (SDLP), Gary Middleton (DUP), Julia Kee (Ulster Unionist), Chris McCaw (Alliance), Eamonn McCann (People Before Profit) and Dr Anne McCloskey (Independent) took part in the live debate, hosted by Mark Patterson.

BBC has defended the decision to omit Ms Bradley stating, as was the case in all its live debates, candidates with the most support were invited to take part in the 90-minute programme..

Mark Patterson told listeners it was BBC policy to offer less supported candidates the opportunity to make recording to put across their views.

He said Ms Bradley had been offered the chance but had refused.

Those taking part in the debate said Ms Bradley should have been allowed to take part.
