Students at a Derry have been learning what it would be like to set up your own business.

Girls from St. Cecilia’s College last week learned about skills required for setting up your own business with help from School Employer Connections and a number of local entrepreneurs.

The event was launched by Gavin Killeen of Nuprint Success who is also President of Londonderry Chamber of Commerce.

He stressed the importance of a ‘can do’ attitude and the importance of GCSE Maths and English for anyone looking for a career in business.

Programme Manager, Vivienne Kerr, outlined the importance of such events.

“Thanks to entrepreneurs giving up their time to take part in these events, our students gain precious insight into what it takes to be an entrepreneur.”

The event formed part of the Careers Education programme at St. Cecilia’s College, whch is co-ordinated by Head of Careers Department, Aisling Conaty.

She said: “Promoting entrepreneurship is one of our main aims in the Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance’s mission statement and it is embedded in our whole department.

“We want students to leave with the qualifications, entrepreneurial skills, and mind-set and work related experiences that will ultimately make them more employable and hopefully evolve into Northern Ireland’s next leading entrepreneurs.”
