Speaking on the 30th anniversary of the atrocity, SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood said the Enniskillen bombing must always be remembered.
The Foyle MLA said: “My thoughts and prayers are today with all those families and friends who continue to bear the burden and scars of the Enniskillen bombing.
“For those who lost loved ones on that day, 30 years will still seem a very short time ago amidst a pain that will never leave them.
“The Enniskillen bombing was one of the dirtiest acts in a long and dirty war.
“30 years on, it is still important to say that the Enniskillen bombing was not an act carried out in the name of true Irish nationalism and republicanism. It was not done in the name of the Irish people.
“It was carried out by those who were more committed to violence than they were to the voice and values of our country.
“It must always be remembered and it must always remain a stain on the history of this island.
“It is still remarkable that out of the ugliness and the pain of that atrocity, the words of forgiveness from Gordon Wilson came to define the bombing alongside the awfulness of its death and destruction.
“It was that spirit of Enniskillen which ultimately carved the way to our peace.
“This week of the anniversary of the Enniskillen bombing and the High Court's judgements on the Glenanne Gang, serves as a stark reminder that our peace has not provided justice and truth for our victims and survivors.
“It is long past time that their needs were fully met - it is the very least we all owe them.”
