A new book charting Martin McGuinness’s journey from leading IRA figure to Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland is being released next week.

‘Martin McGuinness: A Life Remembered’ by Henry McDonald, Ireland correspondent with the Guardian and Observer, is being published by Blackstaff Press.

Kirk Anderson, manager of Eason’s in Foyleside Shopping Centre, said he has ordered 1,000 copies of the book, which will hit the shelves on Thursday, November 16.

“I believe it is going to be a huge hit,” commented Mr Anderson, who has seen a draft copy.

“It has been written by a world-renowned journalist and the pictures are extraordinary."

Mr Anderson added he expects it to be his biggest seller this year.

‘Martin McGuinness: A Life Remembered’ is also currently available to pre order on Amazon at £17.99 with a blurb which states: ‘Few public figures have made such a journey from violence to peace as Martin McGuinness, and many people will acknowledge the contribution and commitment to the common good which he made in the latter part of his life’.

The Derry News requested an interview with Mr McDonald but he was not available for comment pre-publication.

A number of other publications on Mr McGuinness's life have been mooted in recent months, including a photo-essay of tributes, and a compilation of interviews of friends and colleagues of the Republican leader.

Mr McGuinness died in March this year aged 66 after a brief illness.
