Seamus Bradley inquest to start in Derry this December

An inquest into the death of a Derry man killed by the British Army is to take place in Derry this December.

Seamus Bradley, was 19-years-old when he was shot dead by soldiers on the morning of Operation Motorman (31 July) in 1972.

Operation Motorman was an attempt by the British Army to gain control of Catholic areas across Northern Ireland considered 'no-go zones' for the security forces.

The British Army have claimed that Mr Bradley, a member of the provisional IRA, was shot while while up a tree at Bishop's Field. They said he sustained additional injuries while falling.

Mr Bradley's family have alleged that he was shot while running from the area and sustained further injuries while in the custody of soldiers.

15-year-old Daniel Hegarty also died after being shot in the Creggan area of Derry during the operation.

The inquest into Mr Bradley's death is set to begin in Derry on December 11.
