SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney has welcomed the formation of a new group in Derry which was set up to support families bereaved as a result of a road traffic accident.

Life After was set up by local man Christopher Sherrard who lost his father in a road traffic accident.

Committing after the group gave a presentation to members of councils Environment and Regeneration committee today Councillor Tierney said: “I was delighted and touched to receive the presentation today by Life After, the group are doing some fantastic work within this council area and as a member of the steering group I see firsthand how they are helping families who are facing a horrendous time as they try to deal with the practical issues facing families after the death of a loved one.

“I think it was appropriate that the group met us today as this is road safety week and coming into council will hopefully raise the profile of the group and help let people know that this group exists.

“I don’t think there will be a family in Ireland who doesn’t know someone killed in a road traffic accident and I think it’s vital that this group is supported.

“Road traffic accidents know no borders and I would like to see the extension of Life After in Donegal something I put to the group and will continue to support them in doing” Councillor Tierney concluded.
