Police in Limavady are appealing for information following an act of vandalism to a pro-life sign on the Glenshane Road area of Dungiven at the weekend.
The sign was damaged sometime between Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday morning.
Vandals tore the sign off its billboard, which is erected on the roadside at the entrance to Dungiven.
The poster was erected by anti-abortion group ‘Cherish All The Children Equally’.
This is not the first time the pro-life group have been targeted as a similar poster was destroyed at Lower Main Street in September.
Francie Brolly, member of the pro-life organisation, has expressed his disappointment at the act of vandalism.
He said: “Once again a banner in Dungiven depicting an unborn baby along with the caption on English and Irish, ‘Cherish ALL the Children of the Nation Equally’ has been vandalised.”
Mr Brolly continued: “Some people are determined, obviously, that the silent, gentle voice of some of Ireland’s unborn children will never be heard, and so they destroy the message that defends their right to life.”
Mr Brolly concluded: “The people of all persuasions in this community are very upset but all the more determined to keep speaking up for those who cannot yet speak for themselves.”
Police are appealing for anyone who might have information which may assist the investigation to contact them at Limavady on 101 quoting 726 of 19/11/17. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crime stoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
