Derry-born Archbishop of Armagh, Dr Eamon Martin is on a fitness drive coming up to Christmas!
Interviewed in yesterday's irish News, the former St Columb's College principal said he would currently rank his fitness level at 'about five'. But he said he was aiming to be 'a seven' by Christmas.
Dr Martin, who was speaking to Gail Bell for the paper's Health & Fitness column, confessed that his lifestyle was 'quite sedentary - with all the meetings and driving I have to do'. But he said he enjoyed walking in the forest or by the sea.
"I would say, make some time and space each day - even if it's just 20 minutes - to be able to walk and clear your heard, as this is good for both the body and the soul," he said.
"God rest my father, he never wasted a free moment, without getting outside to look after the garden, walk in the country or take a swim at the beach in the summer. He remained at 12 stone for all of his adult life, he didn't smoke or drink alcohol and he ate moderately."
Dr Martin said he eats healthily and that nutrition is always a major consideration.
"My personal preference for evening meal remains a traditional Irish dinner of meat or fish, erred with vegetables and potatoes," he said.
"Most morning I enjoy a simple breakfast of cereal and fruit - I've just started back on porridge for the winter."
Dr Martin also revealed that he likes to sing to relax. "Particularly for the liturgy. And I enjoy playing the piano and listening to all kinds of music - from classical and opera, to jazz, blues and pop."
And he said that while he wasn't very sporty at school he enjoyed PE, especially cross country running 'and playing football' with friends.
