Border Communities Against Brexit are bringing their campaign to Westminster today (Tuesday 28th November) to brief MP's & Peer's on the negative effects of Brexit for NI and border communities.
The group are holding an open briefing from 10:00am to 12:00pm and from 14:00pm to 15:00pm are having a meeting with Labour's Brexit team.
A BCAB spokesperson said: "Labour are seeking to develop their Brexit position on Ireland and our engagement with them is very important.
"We will argue that our solution to Brexit is for the EU border to be placed into the Irish Sea so we can live, trade and travel across Ireland as we do now, and for Ireland to have free access to the UK market and any goods or services that come to Ireland from the UK must do so under EU regulations.
"The British Government know very well this is the solution to unlock the Brexit impasse to allow them access trade talks with the EU, are they going to allow the NI population which is less than 3% of the UK population to stop them getting trade talks?
"The DUP are arguing strongly that we should have no deal which is different than the rest of the UK, but in many ways NI has deals and does things quite different from the UK and we get on with our daily lives. For example the Good Friday Agreement is unique to NI, we have different car registrations, we don't allow Gay couples to get married, we have NO abortion law, we have received Billions of PEACE Funding & other EU Infrastructure Funding, we have an All Ireland Energy Market, our schools break of for holidays at different times especially in the summer, we have different Examination boards. There are many more examples.
"That does not mean that people living in this part of Ireland are any less Irish or British.
"It means we adopt, and come up with solutions and accommodations that allow us as a people, who are neighbours and friends to live and work together.
"It is wrong for anyone to turn this Brexit debate into an identiy issue.
"The constitutional position of Northern Ireland has been settled by the GFA 20 years ago."
