A Derry republican prisoner who was released on licence on Tuesday after serving five years of a ten year sentence has been re-arrested and is currently in custody, it was reported this morning.
Neil Hegarty is said to have been at home with family and friends celebrating his release when he was re-arrested.
The independent republican grouping Saoradh have described his arrest as 'vindictive' and 'quite clearly pre-meditated'.
A spokesperson said: "Neil Hegarty has been returned to captivity by a foreign government with no right to be in Ireland. He is yet another victim of Internment via revocation of licence and should be released back to his family immediately."
