SDLP councillor Shauna Cusack has urged people to be extra cautious this festive season when storing and displaying their Christmas gifts.
Cllr Cusack stated: "Many of you may remember this time last year when we had a plethora of pre and post Christmas house robberies and even gifts being stolen from car boots.
"Opportunists know that many homes are laden with expensive presents which families have worked hard to gather up. Such individuals will be aware that this busy time of year create many distractions which catch people off guard.
"Make sure you keep valuable gifts out of sight including any disposed packaging and always lock doors, windows, vehicles and car boots no matter what time or day. Try make your home look occupied and use your alarm if you have one.
"It's unfortunate that we need to send such a message during this festive time, but no ones Christmas, especially any child's, should be ruined by those seeking their own selfish gain."
