A 40-year-old man who is charged with rape appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court yesterday after being arrested on foot of a European Arrest Warrant.
Chinedu Oniyenike, has been charged with raping a woman on September 21, 2008.
The court heard that Oniyenike was arrested in London earlier this week and then, on December 12, had been arrested by the PSNI at Heathrow Airport.
A Public Prosecution Service (PPS) representative made an application to remand the 40-year-old in custody and defence solicitor Gareth McFadden told the court there would be no application for bail.
Oniyenike, with an address of Cliff View Hostel, Donegal Town, was remanded in custody to appear in court again by way of video link on January 4.
