Man fined after attempting to bite security guard at wedding in Derry

A man who assaulted a doorman during a wedding at a hotel in Derry has been fined, at Derry Magistrate's Court.

Richard McClintock, 32, admitted the assault, as well as a further charge of disorderly behaviour that took place at the Everglades Hotel on November 12 last year.

A Public Prosecutor said that McClintock was at the hotel as a wedding guest when he was approached by the head of security who noticed he was being aggressive towards a middle-aged woman - who was also in attendance as a guest.

As McClintock, of Millbrook Park in Strabane, was being escorted from the building he pushed the doorman several times on the chest, before grabbing him by the throat and headbutting him to his right eyebrow.

The court heard that the 32-year-old attempted to bite the doorman as he was wrestled to the ground.

A defence barrister said his client remembered nothing about the incident due to his level of intoxication. He told the court that McClintock wished to apologise to the doorman who was present in court.

The defendant was fined £225 and ordered to pay the doorman £150 in compensation.
