SDLP councillor Shauna Cusack has requested Transport NI take steps to remove lewd and insensitive graffiti daubed on bollards at crossings along Springtown and Creggan Roads.
It is understood the graffiti is of a lewd nature while 'IRA' is also sprayed in the area.
Cllr Cusack said:"Last year I asked the Department to carry out an inspection of the reflective bollards at road crossings in my constituency to ensure they were fit for purpose as many had fallen into disrepair or so dirty they simply didn't function. I was very pleased at the prompt response by TNI to this safety issue.
"However it appears we now have another problem with these safety measures, that of graffiti which is not only offensive but lewd. In a built up residential area and on major school routes this is simply not acceptable and needs dealt with.
"I have been in touch with the Dept for Infrastructure and I'm glad to report that they will address this issue as soon as is possible."
