Tributes have poured in for a Maghera man who tragically passed away over the weekend.
Damien Gallagher (pictured), who was in his 40’s, is understood to have died from injuries sustained during a fall at home.
Early on Saturday morning, a family member had taken to social media asking for prayers for Damien, who at that time was in hospital where his condition was described as ‘critical’.
However, less than 24 hours later, the same family member posted a photograph of Damien with the message ‘love you’ alongside a picture of a broken heart.
Among those to pay tribute to the Maghera man, was Keith Kyle from Yardmaster, in Draperstown, where Damien worked.
Mr Kyle, the company’s Managing Director, last night said: “The staff at Yardmaster were shocked and saddened to hear of Damien’s death as a result of a tragic accident at home. Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.
“Damien was very much part of the spirit and success of Yardmaster. He was exemplary in terms of his attendance and was a very skilled and reliable worker. He will be greatly missed,” said Mr Kyle.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for a Maghera business described Damien as one of ‘life’s good guys’.
“We are deeply saddened at the very sudden passing of Damien Gallagher, one of life’s good guys. He will be missed by us all. R.I.P. Damien.”
Others who knew him took to social media to pay tribute.
One pal wrote: “Rest easy Damien Gallagher you’ll be sorely missed, keep looking down on your friends and family, help them through this difficult time.”
Another said: “Absolutely heartbroken, you couldn't meet a nicer, young man.”
Meanwhile, local SDLP councillor Martin Kearney, added: “This is an awful tragedy. I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to this man’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
Mr Gallagher’s funeral took place this morning at 11am in Church of St John the Baptist Granaghan.
Following Requiem Mass, he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
