A pregnant woman has slammed vandals who caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to her car.

Áine McBride’s Toyota Corolla was targeted at Josephine Avenue, Limavady while she was staying with her partner’s family on Saturday night last..

When the Donegal woman woke on Sunday morning she discovered that extensive damage had been caused to the vehicle during the night.

The culprits dented the side of the vehicle (pictured), bent the wiper blades beyond repair, pulled off the number plate and stole hub caps.

They also tried to rip out the car stereo and snapped off the wiper controls inside the vehicle before releasing the handbrake and attempting to push the vehicle away.

Áine, who is due to give birth to her first child in September, said the vandals put her life and the life of her unborn baby at risk.

“When I was driving the car yesterday, I went to clear the windscreen of rain but couldn’t as they had snapped off my wiper controls, which meant I couldn’t see and had to stop the vehicle. There were a lot of cars on the road at the time and it could’ve caused me to crash the car and possibly harm my unborn baby in the process.”

Áine, who has had to take the last two months off work after being diagnosed with hyperemesis which, she said, hadput a huge financial strain’ on her and her partner.

“My pregnancy has been tough enough without this happening to me.

“These people have caused several hundred pounds worth of damage and now I have to try to get money together to fix my car before trying to sell it as we really need a five door for the baby coming. All this has just thrown another spanner in the works.”

Áine said she doesn’t know many people in the area and therefore can’t understand why her car was targeted.

“I don’t really know many people around here apart from my partner’s family so I can’t understand why my car was targeted. I am assuming that these people were coming back from the pub and thought it would be funny to wreck my car.

“It has left me very upset. I didn’t do anything to deserve this.

“I would just ask these people to think twice before doing something like this again.

“They have caused me a lot of stress which I didn’t need being pregnant.

“Obviously, they don’t think about the situations people are in when they go out and do things like this. I just hope their five minutes of fun was worth it,” she concluded..
