HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES BLAMED FOR PENNYBURN CHAPEL'S NEW GRANNY BAN

A decision to restrict numbers at this year's Confirmation ceremonies at Pennyburn chapel was taken because of health and safety concerns, the Derry News can reveal today.

It is understood that parents of Primary Seven pupils at nearby St Patrick's PS have received a letter from the school, co-signed by the church, saying only parents and sponsors should attend this year.

One angry Derry grandmother, who did not wish to be named, said that not only could she not attend, but that no 'sisters, brothers, aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc.' would be permitted either.

'We are all going down," she stated. I'd like to see any priest putting me out of a chapel."
