March sees the start of a beekeeping course open to the public from Donegal, Derry and Tyrone.
Because of the rapid decline of the honeybee population world wide, more and more people are taking the plunge and becoming beekeepers to do their part for the environment, to help the bee's recover with the many challenges that they face, from the Varroa Destructor to the Pesticides that are wiping them out.
The Three Rivers Beekeepers Association, based in the Castlefin area of Co Donegal, will be hosting a beginners beekeeping course for anyone interested in starting out as a novice, or who already has bees and are willing to learn more in the art of beekeeping.
The course will include: what to look out for and purchasing bees from a reputable supplier and the different types of hives that are available; what tools and attire is required; site location and the different types of bees.
Queries and questions will be answered and help is only a telephone call away.
The course consists of seven evenings and two practical sessions working with honey bees at the apiary.
For further information or to book your place contact Daniel on 086 3891490 (0035386 3891490 from NI)
The course for 2018 will commence on Thursday 28th March
